Green Gaels good to go

Clarington Jr. B lacrosse team holds annual Classic Saturday

Apr 08, 2009 - 11:49 AM

BOWMANVILLE -- A much better sign of spring than the snow we've seen this week is the fact another lacrosse season is upon us.

The Markham Ironheads and Newmarket Saints visit the Garnet B. Rickard Recreational Complex Saturday to play in the annual Green Gael Classic Pre-season Tournament.

The Green Gaels will be represented by two split-squad teams comprised of veterans and hopefuls playing for spots on this year's Junior B roster.

Admission to the Green Gael Classic is a donation of a non-perishable food item to the local food bank or a 50-50 ticket.

The action gets under way at 9 a.m. with Green Gaels 1 facing Markham, followed by Green Gaels 2 against Newmarket at 10:30 a.m. Newmarket and Markham meet at noon, followed by Markham versus Green Gaels 1 at 1:30 p.m., and Newmarket against Green Gaels 2 at 3 p.m. All games are on Rickard Pad A.

The Green Gaels will wind up training camp with the annual Green and White game Tuesday, April 14, 8 p.m. on Rickard Pad A. Admission is free.

The Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. B season opens for the Green Gaels at home against the Markham Ironheads on Thursday, April 23, 8 p.m.

Visit the Clarington Green Gaels website at www.greengaels.org/web/index.html for more information and the full schedule.
