STORRS, CONN. -- For the first time in her career, senior Cristin Allen of Pickering has been acknowledged as the Hockey East's Pure Player of the Week.
This is the second time in the past three weeks that Allen has been named a weekly award recipient. On Jan. 18, the University of Connecticut defenceman earned Defensive Player of the Week honours for the fourth time in her career.
Allen was a part of each game-winning goal last weekend with an assist at Boston University and scoring the game winner against Vermont on Saturday. She was one of three UConn players to finish the weekend with two points and was responsible for one of the two Connecticut power-play goals scored. Allen was incredibly effective on the offense end, scoring once on a combined three shots on goal on the weekend. She continued to guide the UConn defense, aiding her team in posting a pair of shutouts on the weekend
The Huskies are now third in the conference standings and are a mere two points behind league-leading Northeastern and a point behind Providence. All three teams have eight conference wins.
UConn (17-6-5, 8-3-4) hosts the Boston College Eagles at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum and will take on defending Hockey East Champion New Hampshire Wildcats at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Boston College is currently sixth in the conference standings while New Hampshire is one point behind the Huskies in fourth.
