Clarington Green Gaels mowing them down

Junior B lacrosse team wins two more with ease

May 12, 2009 - 12:05 PM

CLARINGTON -- The Clarington Green Gaels may finally get a good test this week.

It hasn't happened much as of yet for the Green Gaels, who in the course of winning their first six games in the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior B league, have outscored their opponents 71-21.

Only one of those games saw them break a sweat, an 8-5 decision in the season opener over Markham (5-1-1). Otherwise, the combined record of the other three teams they've faced is 0-15-1.

This week, the Green Gaels will host Mimico (3-1) Thursday, 8 p.m. at the Garnet Rickard Recreation Complex, before hitting the road the next day to face Mid East division rival Newmarket, also perfect so far at 5-0.

The past two opponents offered little in the way of resistance for the mighty Green Gaels, who jumped out to an 8-0 lead at home against Orillia en route to an 11-3 win Thursday, and led 7-2 through two in a 12-4 victory in Mississauga Sunday.

Oshawa's Zach Palmer continues to shoot the lights out, with five goals and an assist Thursday and two goals and three helpers Sunday, giving him 18-17-35 numbers for the season.

Ryan Serville also had 11 points over the two games, including a goal Thursday and two Sunday.

Mike McCusker and Curtis Knight chipped in with two goals and an assist each at home, while Lucas Perri and Brendan Fox also had three points in that one.

Chris Cudmore had four points, including a goal, in Mississauga, where Jesse Austen and John Lafontaine contributed with three points apiece.

Luke Coote, on Thursday, and Matt Chamois, on Sunday, each picked up an assist in addition to the win with their respective starts in goal.
