AJAX -- The Ajax Aquatic Club was small, but mighty in the pool at the Swimming/Natation Canada's Age Group Nationals in Calgary.
Although still considered a relatively small club, AAC finished ninth overall - the club's third consecutive year finishing in the top 10 in Canada - and ranked third of the Ontario teams (after only Etobicoke and Oakville).
The Ajax team had a record 21 athletes meet the qualifying times for Age Group Nationals this year, culminating in 13 medals, an additional 20 swims in finals, and a number of club records being broken.
Connor Greenley, 14, had an outstanding meet, winning four individual gold medals and a silver and breaking five club records in the process.
Greenley captured four gold medals in the 50-metre and 200m butterfly and in the 50m and 100m freestyle. He also earned an individual silver in the 100m fly. Greenley also helped Ajax teammates Braden Kingdon, Julien Dodu and Zach Fedak earn silver in the boys' 14-15 100m freestyle relay.
Greenley's five club records came in the 13-14 boys' 50m free, 13-14 boys' 100m free, 13-14 boys' 50m fly, 13-14 boys' 100m fly, and 13-14 boys' 200m fly.

In other Ajax Aquatic Club news, 10-year-old Cassidy Blackwin closed out the 2008 Junior Provincial Long Course Championships in Thunder Bay in July with five medals, four of them gold.
Blackwin won gold in the 50-, 200-, and 100-metre freestyle races and picked up a bronze in the 50m butterfly. Blackwin's best event, however, was the 400m free, where she shattered her own club record by 10 seconds on her way to an impressive 5:21.43 and her fourth gold medal of the meet. She won the race, impressively, by an eight-second margin.
As a result of these fantastic swims, the Ajax Aquatic Club was awarded the 'Pound for Pound' or Best Performing Team Award at the championships.
