Patient missing from WMHC for nearly two weeks

Sep 26, 2007 - 12:01 PM

DURHAM -- A psychiatric patient deemed by police to be a possible threat to the public remains at large, nearly two weeks after walking away from the Whitby Mental Health Centre.

Jon Windover, who was ordered to remain at the hospital after a court found him not criminally responsible for an offence, has a history of violence and substance abuse, Durham police said. Cops are advising anyone who sees the 42-year-old man to call 9-1-1.

Mr. Windover, who is white, 5-feet-8 and 170 pounds with closely-cropped dark brown hair, left the grounds of the south Whitby facility without permission on the evening of Sept. 14. A heavy smoker, he's been without his medication since leaving. Police said Mr. Windover is known to frequent coffee shops.

Anyone who sees the man or is aware of his whereabouts is asked to call police.
