UXBRIDGE -- New specialized computer equipment is on the menu for an Uxbridge charity following healthy donations from the business community recently.
The Jennifer Ashleigh Children's Charity, helping families with chronically or seriously ill children in Uxbridge and beyond, recently was handed grants totalling $16,000 -- $15,000 from Telus, and another $1,000 from Gore Mutual Insurance Company, the latter of which Ron Noble Insurance in Uxbridge is a member.
Peggy Bower, development manager for the foundation, said the influx of funding will also make it possible to purchase "specialized, uniquely engineered trikes to assist in (client) activity, communication and interaction in their community."
Funds will also be directed to the foundation's existing programs, including emergency assistance, care giving, therapy, education, adaptive computers, medical treatment, recreation and personal needs, added Ms. Bower.
Ron Noble Insurance recently became a representative of Gore Mutual, according to Ms. Bower, and the most recent donation came from the Gore Mutual Foundation, she added. "Ron Noble (Insurance) has been a supporter of our children's charity for many, many years," she said.
On Gore's foundation website, it notes "the foundation's mission is to support the communities served by Gore (Insurance) by adding social services, education, health, cultural and environmental activities as may be in the best interest of these communities."
Ian Bacque, an Uxbridge resident and Telus employee, noted, "At Telus we believe it's important to give where we live. And the Jennifer Ashleigh (Children's Charity) is a perfect partner because it helps make the future friendly for children and their families."
