UXBRIDGE -- Despite a high number of traffic tickets handed out over a previous long weekend, drivers didn't change their habits during the most recent holiday, north Durham's traffic coordinator says.
Constable Darrin MacDuff said a total of 127 offence notices were handed out by north Durham police in a 'Crush the Rush' campaign on Friday, Aug. 1, and Monday, Aug. 4, targeting regional roads in Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock.
The number of traffic violations is down from 147 over the Canada Day long weekend. But, "I can tell you that nothing has changed in reference to any improvements in reducing speed or aggressive driving," stated Const. MacDuff.
Offences ranged from speeding, driving without insurance, expired validation tags, failing to stop for an emergency vehicle and driving without a license, said the constable. He said on Aug. 4, one man with a G2 driver's licence was clocked at 115 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Regional Rd. 13 in Leaskdale.
He noted a lot of locals were nabbed during the campaign for speeding in 50 or 60 km/h zones, "as well as our targeted cottagers from the Toronto area."
