HALO 3
Platform: XBOX-360
When HALO was first released it caught people’s attention. Almost overnight a brand new game turned into a franchise.
Stores couldn’t keep copies on the shelves. At the same time, rabid fans bought up merchandise with the familiar HALO graphic upon it. It seemed that sticking the word HALO on something guaranteed that whatever that object was, someone was willing to pay way too much for it.
Then along came HALO 2. Fans lined up overnight to get their pre-ordered copies. Everyone had to get a piece of the action. The game, which would have broken sales records simply because of the name on the packaging, actually proved to be a good game and not a lightweight, quick to the market follow-up. The only complaint about HALO 2 proved to be that people wanted more. Complaints came in regarding the game’s cliffhanger ending.
Now, finally, the wait is over. HALO 3 has hit the shelves of your local stores and has just as quickly been scooped up. Fans waited overnight for the game, got their copies, and rushed home for gaming goodness.
So, is this “easy sell” a game with substance? Most definitely yes!
The game looks great and the storyline is engrossing. The game has the typical first person shooter controls that have become familiar. The weaponry is very good... you’ll get a kick out of all the different combinations that the game has to offer. The game has great scale too. On some of the boards you’ll be facing an enemy that literally steps over a building to get to you. The enemy is just massive!
The voice work on the HALO series has always been good and HALO 3 is no exception. Half the time you’ll want to hang around the computer-controlled soldiers accompanying you just to hear their comments during the battles. As before, some of the alien creatures have some pretty memorable lines in the heat of battle too.
The AI is very good. I like the morale system that the game uses. Go up against a group of enemies and quickly take out the toughest of the group and the rest are likely to turn tail and run. I also like to see enemies that use cover every once in awhile.
This game is a bestseller for a reason... buy it as soon as you can. The only word of warning I can give you is that some people have complained that the Limited Edition metal packaging doesn’t hold the game discs very well so some people have been getting scratched discs. I received a Limited Edition myself and found that the disc was loose inside. So make sure before buying the game that nothing is loose inside the packaging.
