Oshawa Turul Soccer Club expands and adds respected coach

OSHAWA -- The Oshawa Turul Soccer Club is serious about expanding its influence and improving its level of play.

The local club recently welcomed Terrence Crouch as goalkeeping coach for the entire organization and head coach of a newly formed men's team.

"The addition of Terry to our coaching staff will strengthen our position as the most respected elite soccer organization in Oshawa," said club president Roger Mittag in a news release. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the English Football Association. He will commence working with all our club goalies to raise their enthusiasm, work ethic and level of play."

Crouch is recognized as one of Durham Region's most accredited coaches with various degrees of training and certification for first aid, referee and coaching.

The soccer club is enjoying a revival due to the growth of youth soccer, the popularity of professional teams such as the Toronto FC, community alliances and interest from young people to play in affordable soccer programs.

"The Turul Soccer Club is working hard to bring highly trained professional coaches to the club," noted Mittag. "Crouch is a major addition to our roster of soccer enthusiasts."

The club also has announced its expansion to 20 competitive teams in local, regional and provincial competition.

"This is a major milestone for a club that only three years ago was struggling for financing and fielded less than a dozen clubs," said Mittag. "We are reaching out to various community organizations to revitalize soccer programs and help foster interest in the beautiful game."

The Turuls now have an affiliation agreement with the Neighbourhood Association Sports Committee (NASC), a volunteer organization that operates local house league programs in Oshawa. The Oshawa Italian Recreation Club has been the official home of the Turuls for the last two years and continues to be a valued sponsor.

The Dnipro Ukrainian Cultural Centre's full-sized field is now the official home for many of the youth teams. On April 29, Turul challenged its teams and other volunteers to engage in a clean-up program to trim bushes, pick up garbage and paint their new field. More than 120 people participated.

Starting this June and running through August, Turul will have its first Soccer Academy. Accredited coaches will have clinics and developmental sessions for players that wish to improve their ball mastery, coordination and conditioning.

"We are encouraging young people to fall in love with a sport that is played the world over," said Mittag. "Our academy will offer affordable training by seasoned coaches and a fun environment."

"Our club is working hard to instill pride in wearing the jersey," he added.
