Three in a row for the Whitby Chiefs

TORONTO -- The Whitby Chiefs Old-timers team recently participated in the Canadian Adult Recreational Championships held at York University and won the 50 plus division for the third consecutive year.

These regional championships are held yearly for teams that participated and were division champions or made it to finals in tournaments played across the province. This program is supported by Labatt Breweries.

This year, over 60 teams participated in the York University event. There were separate divisions, going by skill level and age categories ranging from 19 plus to over 50. There was also a women's division.

This was the fifth straight year that the Chiefs have participated, capturing their third straight title.

The Chiefs are mostly made up of local players in the Whitby Men's Hockey League 50 and Over Division that play at Iroquois Park on Thursday nights. This league has been in operation in Whitby since 1974.

Team members are Ron Harris, Jim Heard, Al Costello, Jim Reeves, Mike Wells, Gord Bennett, Fred Keeler, Glenn Schofield, Bryan Harrison, Mickey Flynn, Steve Sanford, Barry Gould, Terry Bradimore, Gary Christopher, Tom Mountain and Bob Hartley.
