Grand opening Feb. 20
Jan 20, 2010 - 12:59 PM
PORT PERRY -- A new exhibit will flow into the Scugog Shores Heritage Centre and Archives next month with the launch of We All Live Downstream: The Story of Canada's Water.
Running from Feb. 13 to May 30, the exhibit shines a light on the history and issues regarding Canada's water supply. The exhibit's official opening will take place on Feb. 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Water, one of our planet's key resources, is addressed throughout the exhibit by multi-media presentations, activities and artifacts.
One section on display will feature artifacts from the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology, including a 19th- century town pump and an 1887 gauge plate. Visitors will have the opportunity to operate a model steam engine and pump water using a full-size hand pump developed by Waterloo University mechanical engineers.
Another section will showcase a huge open lattice globe and focus on the fact that the water we drink today is approximately 3.5 billion years old. Visitors will get the chance to sip a cup of "dinosaur water."
Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children (five to 12), and free for children four and under.
