PICKERING -- A male student at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School was sent to hospital with non-threatening injuries following a confrontation between two male students shortly after 9 a.m. today.
Sergeant Paul McCurbin, Durham Regional Police spokesman, confirmed the school was locked down after two male students were involved in a confrontation near the school. Although there were no threats involving the school or the nearby community, St. Mary was locked down following the incident simply because both of the students involved attend the school, located on Whites Road just south of Finch Avenue. The student who received the injuries was sent to the Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital.
Durham Region Media Group has received calls that it was a stabbing involving a Grade 9 and Grade 12 student but police would not confirm that. Whether or not the suspect is in custody has also not been confirmed. Police are currently on the scene.
As of 11:25 a.m. the lockdown was lifted. Continue to check www.durhamregion.com for updates.
