Jan 27, 2010 - 02:14 PM

AJAX-PICKERING -- Organizers for a black Caribbean youth arts showcase are looking for young people who love to sing and dance.

X-quisite Talents, which was created by two Dunbarton High School students, is holding auditions Feb. 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the showcase. The Feb. 20 showcase coincides with Black History Month and will feature dance, singing, drama, visual arts and more.

The auditions target black Caribbean youth from Ajax and Pickering who are between 13 and 19 years old and they'll be held at the theatre at Dunbarton High School, 655 Sheppard Ave., Pickering.

To make an appointment for an audition, e-mail x-quisitetalents@hotmail.com, visit X-quisite Talents on Facebook, call 905-839-3845, ext. 336 or drop by on audition day.

X-quisite Talents is part of the Take the Lead program where youth receive grants to run community projects in Ajax and Pickering and are matched with an adult mentor from a youth service agency. Kizzie Gross and Anika Als, of Dunbarton High School, proposed the X-quisite Talents project and the two students are supported by teacher Morene Beckford.

The Take the Lead community coalition is comprised of: Ajax Pickering Youth Network, Christian Life Centre, Community Development Council Durham, John Howard Society, St. Paul's on the Hill Anglican Church, The Youth Centre, Town of Ajax, YMCA Durham Employment and Community.
