OSHAWA -- Local high school students will have a chance to display their environmental and energy research projects at UOIT's Earth Day Fair.
The fair is a part of international Earth Day celebrations and will give guests the opportunity to meet groups and businesses offering environmental solutions and supporting sustainable living.
"This event is an exciting way for community members to take more action," said Joan Kerr, fair co-ordinator and director general of the Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities. "Building a sustainable community is taking actions without harming the environment. I encourage everyone to think of each day as Earth Day and make positive changes every day."
The research projects on display at the fair were completed as part of UOIT's Youth Science and Technology Outreach program (YSTOP).
The program was launched as part of UOIT's Energy and Environment Day in October, which brought together more than 250 high school students and teachers to learn about the latest science and engineering research at the university.
Students were able to conduct experiments with mentorship from the university's faculty and invited to submit proposals to develop their own energy and environment-related research. A few top proposals were selected and those students were given guidance and assistance from UOIT during their research.
The Earth Day Fair will be held April 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Leisure Room at the Legends Centre on Harmony Road North. Admission is free. To learn more about simple steps that can lead to a more sustainable planet visit www.fbsc.org.
