Animal was in pain after collision

DURHAM -- A suffering deer was put out of its misery near Blaisdale Montessori School Friday morning. Durham Regional Police shot the deer after it was hit by a vehicle around 8:30 a.m. on Toynevale Road in Pickering.

"We did our best to manage it," said police spokesman Dave Selby. "We had to shoot the deer because it was in terrible pain."

The deer had a suspected broken back and was moaning and crying, Mr. Selby said.

"It was bad," he said.
