Uxbridge resident receives honour during surprise ceremony

UXBRIDGE -- Ron Matheson thought he was going to the Uxbridge Legion recently to see the pipe band play. "The Legion pipe major called me up and said there's a celebration for the band," said Mr. Matheson, a spry 85-year-old Uxbridge Legion member who resides in Goodwood. "I figured I'd come and cheer the band on." When he got to the Legion Hall, he didn't notice his family was there waiting for him. "The band started playing 'Scotland the Brave'," said Mr. Matheson, who was born in Scotland. "I was thinking 'there's not many people here.'"
