Bras for a Cause is back

Aug 16, 2008 - 04:30 AM

PORT PERRY -- Bras for a Cause is coming back to Meta4 Contemporary Craft Gallery.

The gallery and the Durham Gala of Hope are looking for artists, amateurs and students to create decorative bras. Gallery owners will select some for display and visitors will vote for the people's choice award. The bras will then be displayed and auctioned during the Gala of Hope's Pink Martini fundraising event, which raises money for the fight against cancer.

Anyone can make and submit a piece for the exhibit, which opens Aug. 28 and runs until Sept. 8.

"We've expanded the event this year because so many people wanted to see the bras last year," said gallery co-owner Birgitta MacLeod. "We had everything from super-sized floral creations to really tiny pieces.

"It's a great cause, it's fun, creative and immensely satisfying. We really want people to have fun with it."

Last year, metal, fabric, paint, natural materials, wire and papier mache were some of the items used to make more than 40 bras in the exhibit.

The deadline for entries this year is Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. The bras must be suitable for display on a hanger or self-supporting and must be made from stable, non-perishable materials.

Entry forms are available at the gallery, 200 Queen St. For more information, drop into the gallery, call Meta4 at 905-985-1534 or e-mail info@meta4gallery.ca.
