PICKERING -- The St. Mary Catholic Secondary School Monarchs senior girls' soccer team is looking forward to the playoff quarter-finals next week after ending Durham Region regular-season play with an unbeaten record.
The Monarchs (6-0-1) wrapped up a solid season in Oshawa with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School Saints in Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletics (LOSSA) play on Tuesday. The victory meant St. Mary finished in first place in the 15-team league.
Striker Shelby Forza put forth an outstanding offensive effort to score a hat trick to pace the Monarchs' attack. Laura Taglioni and Kelly Craig each popped a goal.
Goalkeeper Jessica Vella added yet another shutout.
The Monarchs finished the season scoring 30 goals in its seven league games, while allowing a stingy one goal against.
The defending league champion St. Mary plays its quarter-final contest next Thursday. The Monarchs' opponent isn't yet known.
