AJAX -- For the past 10 years, Lakeside Public School has been our home away from home, filling our minds with knowledge and skills to last a lifetime.
In 1986, the doors of Lakeside Public School opened for the first time, inviting all to come and see what it had to offer. The location of the school played a huge part in deciding upon a name for this new place of learning. The closeness to Lake Ontario inspired the well-suited name of Lakeside Public School.
Since then, Lakeside has grown, recently shown through perseverance while striving for eco-friendliness.
Over the past 23 years, a lot has changed.
We used to be the Lakeside Breakers and had school colours of green, red, yellow and gold. We are now the Lakeside Lions. The new addition that was added onto our school in 2003 was with principal Les Noble.
Then again, some things never change. Looking back into the school, we realized we still do all the same things that the students before us did. We all participate in or watch the talent shows. We have school plays, musicals such as Clowns, Celebrate You and Me, I Need a Vacation, Annie and the Big Bad Musical; and we even used to host art shows.
Everyone also participates in the different charities Lakeside is a proud supporter of: The Terry Fox Run, Fitness Friends, Christmas boxes and more. We used to participate in Jump Rope for Heart, but now focus on just The Terry Fox Run. One year, we even made $10,000 for cancer research through the Terry Fox Run.
Through everything, our school's values have always been the same.
We asked our teacher Mrs. Westendorp what she thought of our school after being here for 19 years.
"Well, I'm still here aren't I?" she said. "When I retire this year, I will miss it."
Throughout our many experiences at this wholesome school, good or bad we have come back to the realization that Lakeside was always there for us. To all the caring staff members who have helped mould us into the people we are today, thank you. We hope you continue to enrich the lives of generations to come.
We stand today in the community as proud of our school as ever and seeking more opportunities to help enhance the wonder that is Lakeside Public School.
