DURHAM -- The top local stories in Durham Region, breaking news and current weather are now at your fingertips -- no matter where you are -- with a web-enabled cellphone or handheld. Metroland Durham Region Media Group has launched a new service specially designed to allow you to “get local” wherever you go.
It’s called mobile.newsdurhamregion.com, an Internet news service that you can access on any mobile device that can connect to the Internet.
The frame below is a live demonstration.
Metroland is the most read local news source with its This Week newspapers in Oshawa, Whitby and Clarington, the News Advertiser in Ajax, the Port Perry Star and the Uxbridge Times-Journal which also provide up to the minute coverage that’s made
newsdurhamregion.com a popular stop on the web for local news in Durham Region.
“It’s all about immediacy,” said Ian Caldwell, manager of Online Editorial Content.
“Whether it arrives at your doorstep, at your desktop or on your handheld, we will be the place to turn to for news that’s in your neighbourhood,” he said.
mobile.newsdurhamregion.com offers the five top local stories of the day, current weather conditions with forecasts, the latest local sports, entertainment and business news.
Access is free, but a data plan from a cellphone company is required to browse the web on a mobile phone or handheld and carrier charges may apply.
mobile.newsdurhamregion.com is specially designed to load quickly and minimize the amount of data being transferred on a handheld web connection.
You’ll be able to see the latest on the five top stories, breaking news, current weather conditions as well as short-term and long-term forecasts and the top stories in sports, entertainment and business.
