Here is a list of fallen soldiers who heroically died serving their country.
2008
August 9
Master Cpl. Josh Roberts of Second Battalion, Princess Patricia's
Canadian Light Infantry based out of Shilo, Man., died of a gunshot
wound while on patrol.
July 6
Pte. Colin Wilmot, an Edmonton-based medic, was critically injured while on patrol in the Panjwai district. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a military hospital at Khandahar airfield.
June 7
Capt. Jonathan (Jon) Sutherland Snyder died after falling in a well in Kandahar. A member of the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Snyder had been on his second deployment to the country.
June 3
Capt. Richard Leary died in a firefight in the troubled Panjwaii district outside Kandahar city when the joint Afghan-Canadian patrol came under small-arms fire. Capt. Leary was a platoon commander with Second Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry based in Shilo, Man.
May 6
Corporal Michael Starker was killed in an ambush while on foot patrol in the Pashmul Region of the Zharey District outside Kandahar. A second soldier was injured in the attack. Corp. Starker was serving as a member of the 15 Field Ambulance.
April 4
Private Terry John Street, 24, of Hull, Quebec was killed by a roadside bomb. He was serving with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry based in Shilo, Manitoba.
March 11
Bombardier Jérémie Ouellet, 22, was with the 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, based in Shilo, He was found dead in his sleeping quarters. An investigation continues.
March 2
Trooper Michael Yuki Hayakaze, 25, of Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), based in Edmonton.
