Girl sexually assaulted in Courtice

Aug 06, 2008 - 07:49 AM

COURTICE -- Durham Regional Police are investigating a sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl in Courtice.

A girl was heard screaming at Courtice high school Tuesday night, which prompted calls to police.

When officers arrived a red van fled the scene.  Police took up the chase but broke it off over safety concerns when the van approached Oshawa.

The van has been located but police are still looking for a suspect. Officers have converged on the area of Courtice High School in the Nash Road and Courtice Road area looking for evidence.

Police say the 12-year-old had been taken from Peterborough and was driven to Courtice.

She's been taken to hospital for treatment.

A police officer could be seen about 8 a.m. on the football field at the high school collecting evidence.
