Teens on YouTube @ Oshawa libraries

July 11, 2008 - 11:28

Teens with a good idea of a funny video might want to enter Oshawa Public Libraries’ Laugh Out Loud YouTube contest.

That’s right, OPL is running a YouTube video contest this summer. Part of the libraries’ Laugh Out Loud program to get teens reading, the video contest runs through Sept. 2. The theme is Laugh Out Loud @ Your Public Library. The grand prize is a digital camera.

There are rules to follow. Teens must be 13 to 19 to enter and have their parent’s or legal guardian’s permission before entering and written permission before entries are considered. Video must be between one to five minutes long and include “Oshawa Public Libraries” somewhere. The video must be suitable for family audience viewing. Videos can be uploaded at www.youtube.com/OPLTeens.

Detailed rules and regulations are available by contacting Tiffany Balducci at 905-579-6111, ext. 5238, or tbalducci@oshawalibrary.onc.ca.

But that’s not all that’s going on for teens at the library this summer.

The LOL reading program sees teens getting points when they check out books, CDs, magazines and DVDs, drop in for programs including the f2f book chat, or writing reviews of books, movies or music CDs. There’s a chance to win an IPod Nano, tickets to Canada’s Wonderland. You can get details at any library branch.

Each branch is also running a caption contest. At each branch, there’s a photo on display. Submit what you think the caption should be -- keep it clean, remember. The winning caption will be posted on the teen blog and a prize is also involved.
