DURHAM -- Durham police are investigating a pair of violent home invasions which took place over the weekend, the first on Scugog Island and a second one shortly after in Oshawa.
According to Durham police, the violent visits took place within an hour of each other on Sunday morning, but are not related.
Police say that at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, three men entered a residence on Carnegie Beach Road on Scugog Island and assaulted four occupants inside the home. During the home invasion, the 43-year-old homeowner was violently pistol-whipped, add police. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital and later transported to a Toronto-area hospital with head injuries.
Authorities add police were not called until a half-hour after the incident and no arrests have been made in the case.
The trio of suspects are described as black males.
In Oshawa, around 2:50 a.m., police say officers were called to an apartment building on Simcoe Street North after a homeowner reported being assaulted.
According to police, a 33-year-old man opened the door to let an acquaintance in when three males suddenly pushed their way into the residence.
The homeowner was violently assaulted and the apartment was ransacked, say police. The suspects fled after stealing cash and some valuables, add authorities.
The injured homeowner attended a hospital for treatment and police were notified.
The three suspects are described as white males, about six-feet tall, and all wearing bandanas to cover their faces, police say.
Anyone with information about either incident is urged to contact Durham police at 905-579-1520.
