Clerk injured in tire iron attack

Sep 02, 2008 - 05:57 PM

OSHAWA -- An Oshawa gas bar clerk sustained head injuries when he was attacked by a man wielding a tire iron Saturday night.

Durham police have appealed for information in the attack, which saw the 36-year-old clerk sent to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The victim was working at the Esso gas bar at Park Road and Gibb Street shortly after 11 p.m. when a suspect jumped on the counter and bashed him several times with the tire iron before fleeing, police said.

Nothing was taken, so police have classified the incident as an assault rather than a robbery.

The suspect wore a black hooded sweatshirt with a red bandana over his face. He's a black man, six feet with a medium build and is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-579-1520, ext. 5361 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
