Police release Bowmanville copper theft suspects' descriptions

Feb 01, 2010 - 05:02 PM

BOWMANVILLE -- Police are appealing to the public as they attempt to catch copper thieves.

Theft of copper wire from work yards, commercial buildings, hospitals and cellphone towers across Durham has been on the rise in recent months, police say.

One such recent event in Bowmanville resulted in security video footage of three suspects and their vehicle.

All three are white men in their early 20s. One is described as tall, with a thin build, wearing a plaid coat and black toque. The second is said to be of average height, wearing a red hoodie and a black toque. The final suspect is described as short, with a small build. He was wearing a red toque, plaid coat, dark pants and white running shoes.

The vehicle is described as a black GMC Sierra pick-up truck with an extended cab and short box. There is a chrome covering over the gas tank and the truck has chrome pipe-style running boards. The truck is equipped with roof lights and a strobe light. The vehicle has no front plate and a sign on the rear side window. It's believed there's a compressor in the back of the truck.
