CLARINGTON -- The municipal election may be 10 months away, but a Bowmanville survey company wants to know what residents think will be the major issues.
Collis and Reed Research is once again reaching out to the community in an attempt to find out what matters most to municipal voters.
"Municipal government often has the most direct impact of any elected body on our quality of life," said an e-mail sent by the company, announcing the most recent survey. "The decisions made at Town Hall affect important services like fire, police and ambulance and play a vast role in the planning and creation of parks, recreational facilities, shopping centres and even employment areas in and around our neighbourhoods."
Collis and Reed's Ron Collis and Jesse Parsons have created an ever-growing survey panel and have been asking community-related questions through the surveys for the past few months. In November, they sought input on what keeps people from voting in municipal elections.
In December, the pair asked about shopping habits, looking at whether residents were shopping locally.
"We seem to get a stronger response with political issues," Mr. Parsons said.
Responses to the municipal issues survey, which closes Friday, Jan. 29, have been rolling in, with more than 100 people having answered by Tuesday. While it's too soon guess on results, a trend does seem to be emerging in terms of how people are answering.
"What we've seen thus far is that we're not getting the standard 'click-click-click'" on the survey choices," Mr. Parsons said.
Instead, people are taking the time to comment.
"If someone's answering, they're giving a comment," he said. "This is not a passive exercise."
