Clarington schools help Haiti

Jan 26, 2010 - 10:28 AM

CLARINGTON -- Schools in Clarington are raising money for Haiti.

Clarke High School will be holding a loonie collection campaign. They will also be holding 'Matchmaker' and 'Crush for my Crush' Valentine's fundraisers, and will be auctioning off the butler services of senior students. In addition to the money raised at these events, the proceeds from a February semi-formal dance will also go towards relief efforts for Haiti.

Dr. Emily Stowe Public School has come up with a creative way to collect funds for drinking water in Haiti. Students will be using water bottles to collect change. The school hopes to raise $1,000, with incentives to donate, including paying a loonie to wear a hat to class.

A Hearts for Haiti dance was held Jan. 25, at Dr. Ross Tilley Public School.

Newcastle Public School's fundraising campaign will include a Toonie Tropical Day, and a pizza day for Mark Duke's Grade 3 class.

Dr. G. J. MacGillivary Public School student Eira Dougall organized a pizza lunch for Rebecca Lowe-Spicer and Matthew Smith's Grade 5/6 classes. The lunch raised more than $300.

A Help for Haiti campaign at Enniskillen Public School has already raised $327 to donate to the Red Cross efforts.
