BOWMANVILLE -- It used to house everything from soup to nuts; soon, it'll be the place to go for anything from pens to pilsner.

The building formerly home to A and P at King and Liberty is experiencing something of a reincarnation, coming back as home to two retail outlets: business supply giant Staples, and a relocated, bigger Beer Store, expected to open mid-February.

"Rapid population growth in the Clarington area has resulted in a new, more central location," Beer Store spokeswoman Sandra Ward said in an e-mail.

The Beer Store is currently located at King Street East and Frank Street.

"Its new location . . . is more than two-thirds larger than the old store and will be Durham Region's largest Beer Store," Ms. Ward said.

The new store will have a self-service concept, as well as a larger lobby, more display areas and an improved bottle return area.

The Staples store will be home to a huge business supply section, a computer and electronics department which will include in-store computer repair, and a full copy centre, said general manager Robert Morris. The store will employ about 20 people.

Staples's grand opening is set for Saturday, March 6.
