BOWMANVILLE -- A 71-year-old Clarington man sustained serious injuries after being hit by a van on Liberty Street in Bowmanville Tuesday night.
On Aug. 19 at about 10 p.m. police were called to a report of a grey Plymouth Voyageur van hitting a pedestrian. According to police, the pedestrian was crossing the road near Albert Street in an area where there is not a pedestrian crosswalk. The man was struck by the van and landed on the boulevard to the east of the roadway.
The pedestrian was transported to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville with fractures to his pelvis, right hip and fibula. The driver, a 29-year-old Clarington man, was not injured.
Witnesses reported the driver of the van was given little opportunity to avoid the collision and the van was being operated in a safe manner. No charges are pending against the driver.
Investigators determined that weather and environmental conditions were favourable and that the pedestrian was intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision.
Anyone with information can call Constable Jay Shaddick at 905-579-1520, ext. 1687. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
