OSHAWA -- General Motors will extend the summer shutdown of the Impala line by one week, but the Camaro line will stay up and running.
The consolidated line in Oshawa, which manufactures the Impala, will be shut down for an extra week starting July 13.
The flexible manufacturing line, where the Camaro is produced, will still be open that week and plant employees will be working overtime, GM Canada spokeswoman Patty Faith said.
GM has decided to extend the temporary summertime closing of seven factories because widespread temporary shutdowns will not be enough to control a burgeoning supply of some models, the company said yesterday.
GM spokesman Chris Lee said the company will add up to four weeks to temporary shutdowns at assembly plants in Detroit-Hamtramck; Lansing, Mich.; Orion Township, Mich.; Lordstown, Ohio; Shreveport, La.; and Spring Hill, Tenn.
The closings might not be the last of GM's efforts to keep inventory down, the company said.
