BROOKLIN -- When Lannette Jamieson could no longer be as physically active as she wanted to be, she started designing clothes for other athletes.<<>> Ms. Jamieson was a gymnast who competed provincially. She studied dance and worked with Canadian skater, José Chouinard, to choreograph routines for young skaters. She was also an avid golfer.<>>
But when Ms. Jamieson was forced to slow down because of a heart condition she still wanted to stay artistic, she said.
"I needed a creative outlet that could be worked on while laying down," she said.
So Ms. Jamieson started designing a line of golf clothes for women. The idea came to her when she was not able to find the right type of clothes with the right fit.
"The main objective was to create clothes that were super versatile," she said. "So you could change your shoes and wear the outfit out and it would be very sexy."
Ms. Jamieson started Lannette Golf and Resort Apparel three years ago and designed the 2009 line while on bed rest during a rough pregnancy.
"The line came literally from my hospital bed," she said.
Her designs are available at many golf stores locally including Strut Nouveau in Oshawa, the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club, Wooden Sticks in Uxbridge, Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club in Pickering and Wyndance Golf Club in Uxbridge. The clothes are also sold as far away as the Fairmont Hotel in Banff.
With a new business partner and a new model lined up Ms. Jamieson is hoping to expand the number of vendors carrying the clothes this year.
Ms. Jamieson signed Port Perry native and 2008 Playmate of the year Jayde Nicole to a one-year contract as a model and spokeswoman for the line.
Ms. Jamieson's designs can be seen online at www.ljwear.com. The 2009 catalogue is due out soon, she said.
