The oldest fair in Durham Region is inviting local residents to come out and "horse around."
The theme for the 157th annual Sunderland Agricultural Fall Fair is 'Horsin' Around at the Fair.'
There are plenty of events lined up for the first night of fair, which gets underway Tuesday night at 6 p.m., including the annual spelling bee, a horse pull, a vintage tractor display, a lawn tractor pull, a showcase of antique cars and a concert by Garry Peters.
The livestock and poultry events run Wednesday, with competition in a number of categories, including light and heavy horse shows.
Children take the spotlight for a good part of the day, with a parade at 11 a.m. and entertainment at 1 p.m.
Agriculture remains front and centre with the Sunderland Fair offering a number of classes in hay, maple syrup, honey and eggs.
The diversified culinary art section offers classes for everyone, while vegetable growers are challenged to enter the Sunderland's "giant" classes along with a long list of other classes in the vegetable section. Those that break a fair record will receive a special prize.
The plant and flower show welcomes exhibitors with many classes to enter, including arrangements.
Fair organizers are also very proud of the homecraft section. A varied antique class and incredible photography section are all among the sections one can enter to become a part of the festivities.
The fair wraps up on Wednesday with a performance by Richard McIntrye and Friends - from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. - and the ever-popular demolition derby, which is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Admission to this year's event costs $6 for adults on Tuesday, with students getting in for free. On Wednesday, admission costs $7 for adults and high school students, with elementary school-aged children and younger getting in for free.
