The parishioners of Beaverton Presbyterian Church are kicking off the fundraising campaign for a new building this week.
A corn roast and hot dog barbecue will be held Thursday (Aug. 28) at 5:30 p.m. There will also be music and balloons for kids. The event is free to attend, but donations are welcomed. All proceeds will go to the church's building fund.
Back in May, church officials unveiled ambitious $2-million expansion plans to township council.
While the current church is roughly 3,700-square-feet in size, the plans for the new 12,000- to 14,000-square-foot building include a much larger banquet room, additional office space and a gymnasium.
It's expected the new building would house some kind of youth centre, but details are still being hashed out.
The expanded church is being prompted by planned future growth in the village.
"We're looking to our future," Jim Hughes, co-chair of the church's development committee, told members of council at the time.
"There's great potential in our community. It will grow and our church must grow with it."
