City crews were at Kedron Park this week removing the metal skateboard ramps, which caused major headaches for neighbours after kids started using them after hours.

"You can imagine what skateboards sound like on a hollow metal structure, it's like drums," said Bill Slute, the City's manager of parks and facilities. "The residents couldn't sleep."â?¨ Mr. Slute said the skate park -- which was made of removable, pre-fabricated units -- will be relocated to another spot, while the City looks into putting a less noisy structure in Kedron Park, located near Conlin Road and Ritson Road North.

The metal structures cost about $20,000.

"That's the good thing about the pre-fab units, we can move them when we need to and the only cost is the staff time to relocate them," Mr. Slute said. "We recognize that we still need something in the north end, and we will be looking into it."

The Kedron skate park was one of three in the city. The Donovan Recreation Complex on Harmony Road South includes a permanent, 9,500-square-foot skate park and there are other pre-fabricated units at Lakewoods Park in the south end of the city.
