UXBRIDGE -- A line-up of local talent will highlight Uxbridge's Canada Day celebrations this year.
The Township is planning a fireworks extravaganza from 5 p.m. to dusk in Uxbridge's Elgin Park on Tuesday, July 1, and entertainers are set to hit the Rotary Club bandshell right from the start of the festivities.
At 5 p.m. Pineridge Chorus is tentatively scheduled, with Ryan Goodman at 5:30 p.m. At 6:15, Uxbridge's Dancebridge will hit the stage, with a tentative visit from Downtown Magnetawan at 7:15 p.m. At 8 p.m. the Knockouts will take the spotlight, with singer/songwriter Leah Speers at 8:45 p.m.
The Uxbridge Legion Pipes and Drums will wrap up the stage entertainment at 9:30 p.m. followed by fireworks at dusk. The Times-Journal will present its Citizen of the Year award at 7 p.m.
Food vendors, children's games/art barn, horse and wagon rides, and jumping castle will also be offered at the park that evening, said Councillor Pat Mikuse, chairwoman of tourism.
Donations will be accepted at the gate to help offset the $10,000 cost of the fireworks, said Coun. Mikuse.
Meanwhile, the Uxbridge Legion at 109 Franklin St. will offer a free Canada Day barbecue at its facility from noon to 2 p.m.
