We asked, There have been no takers in Oshawa’s bid to sell the Cullen Miniatures collection. What do you think the City should do with them?
I guess there’s only one thing they can do- send them back to Whitby with a note saying, ‘Our eyes were bigger than our belly and we can’t figure out why we bought them in the first place. PS, we have also included a cheque for $50,000 for you to store them somewhere in Whitby for future use’. By the time this is all said and done, that’s the cheapest way for Oshawa to go!

Mayor Gray and those councillors who voted to buy the Cullen Miniatures should purchase them personally and then set them up in their own front yards. Then they will be reminded every time they return home how they squandered our tax dollars on something that may have historic interest, but not a monetary value. If these items were of value to a collector/exhibitor then they would have been sold long before Council doled out the dollars. How much of our tax increase can be attributed to this pink elephant?

I think the City was foolish to buy these miniatures to begin with, as I understand it was Louise Parks’s request that the City put in a bid. At that point she should have had a plan for the purchase, which she didn’t, so what was her reasoning in wanting the City to buy this product to begin with? She should buy them back from the City for the same price. Since she claims they are worth much more then what the City paid for them, she will be getting a good deal. I wish I could just go and buy all the items that are for sale just because she thinks it’s a good deal. It’s only a good deal if you need it or at LEAST have a plan for the purchase. Just my opinion, which brings me to the suggestion that we should change up the City council because of their lack of ability to manage our money. They continue to buy like drunken sailors, as the saying goes, and should be more accountable for their spending, like the garbage trucks they spent thousands on, and the list of irresponsible spending goes on and on.
