Have your say on Dalton McGuinty's pledge regarding services

Aug 21, 2007 - 10:31 AM

We asked, Will Dalton McGuinty’s pledge to have Ontario again pay for services it downloaded prompt you to vote Liberal?

You kidding? He broke just about every promise he made last election. No way! Had his run, didn’t perform. Someone else’s turn.

-- Charles Allard, Ajax

Dalton’s “pledge” will definitely not prompt me to vote Liberal. There is only one taxpayer in this country. His pledge would only dump the tax burden on Canadians that don’t even live in these wasteful municipalities. Also, what is going to happen to the education portion of the tax bill that was uploaded to the Province by Mike Harris, but very seldom ever mentioned by municipal leaders? Education is only next to health care in this province as far as costs go. Will this cost be downloaded from the Province back to municipalities if Dalton uploads the other tax burdens? Who knows what could happen if Dalton is returned to office?

-- Russ Horner, Oshawa

Not a chance. The Liberals will not see any support from me. I can recall Mr. McGuinty introducing a mandatory health tax a few years back that helped fill his purse - in my opinion this tax has not assisted hopitals in any way and this ploy appears to have only been a revenue source for his current promises. Can’t trust him.

-- John Malish, Oshawa

Dalton McGuinty will attempt anything in order to gain votes. I'm not buying his lies anything.

-- Peter Smith, Oshawa

Dalton McGuinty is an outright liar. Where is the full funding for autistic children he promised??? They keep claiming that they are putting more and more money in. If they are really keeping up with the needs of autistic children, why are the waiting lists for services now over 2 years long?????

-- Dennis Greer, Ajax

Who cares what Dalton McGuinty promises? He has proven over and over that he is a liar. He has already made so many pre-election promises of a monetary nature that by default he will again have no choice but to break most of these promises. He has pledged billions over the past few weeks. Money that Ontario just doesn't have.  I will not be fooled again, I'm voting for John Tory.

-- Jeff Gardiner, Oshawa

Are you kidding? I would never vote for Dalton 'McLiar' in a million years. He is an untrustworthy Liberal politician (not sure if that is an oxymoron). And NO, not all politicians are the same. I do not forget, and I will punish his party with my vote. Other than that, the decision to upload certain services is a fine idea.

-- Carson Hirner, Pickering

Dalton will say anything to get elected and do nothing to keep his promises. We need to get politicians who want to work for the people, versus ones who are out for themselves.

-- John Pearson, Pickering
