DURHAM -- An Oshawa woman has been charged with assault after an 84-year-old resident of a seniors' home had to be hospitalized.
Durham Regional Police report the son of the victim complained to officials about an incident that happened at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The police were called to the home on Thursday.
Bonnie Kendell, 42, a personal services worker, turned herself into police. She was charged with one count of assault and released under conditions, including not having contact with any people involved in the incident, and staying away from her place of employment.
Garth Johns, the human resources commissioner for Durham Region, said Ms. Kendell is "an employee of the Region. A part-time employee."
He refused to comment on Ms. Kendell's current employment status, saying only "we're still dealing with that. We're dealing with this most seriously."
The Region's investigation should take a couple of days to complete, Mr. Johns added.
