UXBRIDGE -- Since his beloved dog was run over and killed by a vehicle, Gord Grant has been looking for two things.
One is the driver of the vehicle, although he doesn't expect to find them.
"I'm not going to find the guy who hit the dog, I didn't get the licence plate," he said, noting he only saw a small car, dark in colour, come "screaming around a corner" at South Beech and McGuire Crescent around noon on Sunday, Jan. 17.
The car, he said, "came from behind me" and struck his pet poodle/chihuahua mix, Joey, while they were crossing the street together.
But, while he has all but given up hope finding the driver responsible, he's still looking for a man who helped him shortly after the incident.
"Obviously I was upset ... somebody showed up in a white car, and asked 'can I give you a lift?'" recalled Mr. Grant.
Shortly after, the man with three children in tow showed up and offered him a sympathy card, he said.
"But I didn't get his name," said Mr. Grant, noting he was upset so didn't think to ask.
Since then, he has been canvassing the neighbourhood looking for this good Samaritan to thank him, as the card was signed only by the children, he said. He has enlisted the help of neighbours to help track him down but so far hasn't heard from the mystery helper.
"I was so impressed that they were concerned," he said of the group that gave him the card. "I don't know any of these people personally."
