Tammy Schoep tapped as hopeful at Dec. 15 nomination meeting

DURHAM -- Tammy Schoep will represent the New Democratic Party in Durham Riding whenever the next federal election is held.
During a nomination meeting held Dec. 15 in Bowmanville, Ms. Schoep, 30, was acclaimed as the NDP candidate for Durham Riding.
A former General Motors employee, Ms. Schoep has become actively involved in the Canadian Autoworkers' Union since losing her job of more than six years, says a release from the Durham NDP Riding Association.
She is a volunteer at the CAW Local 222 Action Centre, helping fellow laid-off workers prepare for their future, has successfully completed a counselling course and volunteers occasionally with the United Way.
Ms. Schoep helped organize Power Shift Canada and is one of two Ontario recruitment support people. She is also a Durham regional co-ordinator for outreach and recruitment, helped to raise $12,000 and put together a team of over 30 young people to attend Power Shift in Ottawa.
Ms. Schoep is a single mother of three girls, 10, 12 and 15.
No date has been set for the next general election.
