Whitby Santa Claus Parade celebrates 40 years

Nov 27, 2009 - 10:49 AM

WHITBY -- The Whitby Santa Claus Parade will wind its way into town on Saturday, Dec. 5, bringing with it a wide variety of floats decorated around the theme, The Magic of Christmas.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the corner of Brock Street and Manning Road and will make its way south on Brock until arriving at the Centennial Rotary Park on Burns Street around noon.

The Santa Claus Parade in Whitby is organized by the JCI Whitby, a non-profit organization that provides personal development opportunities for young people. Youth are encouraged to volunteer their time to help JCI organize the parade.

Organizations can compete in different entry prize categories including best community float, best commercial float, best walking group and best clown group. A separate category has also been added for local schools to compete for the best school float.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of this highly anticipated event.
