Repatriation ceremony will be Monday afternoon

Jul 03, 2009 - 02:56 PM

DURHAM/NORTHUMBERLAND -- The war mission in Afghanistan has taken the life of another Canadian soldier and injured five others.

Corporal Nicholas Bulger, 30, was travelling behind his senior commander on Friday when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.

Five other soldiers were hurt, but Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance, who commands coalition forces in Kandahar, escaped unhurt.

Cpl. Bulger was a member of 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton. He is the third Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan in less than a month and the 121st since 2002.

A repatriation ceremony will be held in Trenton at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 6, with the motorcade travelling through Northumberland around 2:45 p.m. and Durham at about 3:30 p.m.

Hundreds of area residents are expected to pay tribute on overpasses as the motorcade makes its way to Toronto along the Highway of Heroes.
