SCUGOG ISLAND -- Tracy Gauthier was returned as chief of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation last week when ballots were cast for the native council.
In an election held June 26, Chief Gauthier was appointed to her fourth term as leader of the Scugog Island Mississaugas. Joining her around the council table will be incumbent councillors Della Charles and Kelly LaRocca.
Chief Gauthier defeated Robert Edgar for the top spot, while councillors Charles and LaRocca kept their seats from challengers Lonny Coons, Christopher Johnson and Jeanne LeSaux
According to a press release, those casting ballots "overwhelmingly" returned the incumbents to the council table for another two-year term.
The trio, added the release, "secured the majority of votes, from both on and off the territory membership, to remain as the governing body of the First Nation."
When contacted on Monday, officials refused to release the vote counts.
