Uxbridge Stream Teams sought

Volunteers needed for watershed day

Jun 30, 2009 - 10:11 AM

UXBRIDGE -- Volunteers are needed to get their feet wet this summer.

The Citizens' Environment Watch, in partnership with the Uxbridge Watershed Advisory Committee and Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, are seeking 30 volunteers to measure stream flow during 'Check Your Watershed Day' on Saturday, July 18.

Individuals will gather that morning at the Uxbridge Library for a training session, followed by a free lunch for helpers before they head out into the field, according to Tom Fowle, chairman of the watershed committee. The session wraps up at 4 p.m.

Using buckets, rulers and even leaves, helpers in 'Stream Teams' will measure the flow of Uxbridge Brook streams, noted Joyce Chau of Environment Watch. "Learn first-hand about your watershed... bring your family and friends or meet new people," reads a brochure on the event.

Registration is required by July 10. For more information, call 647-258-3280 ext. 2007 or visit www.citizensenvironmentwatch.org.
