CLARINGTON -- Meet Peterborough artist Wendy Trusler Sunday in Bowmanville.
Her Into the Living exhibition runs July 5 through Aug. 16. There's an opening reception hosted by the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington on July 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. The show is at the Bowmanville branch of the Clarington Public Library, 143 Simpson Ave.
Trusler has shown extensively in Ontario and previous exhibitions include Dancing in a Northern Kitchen, Things Conspiring To Tell the Whole Story and Odes to Anatomies. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art, has a BA in History from the University of Western Ontario and has travelled a great deal in northern Canada.
For the Clarington exhibition, Trusler has put together a series of book works using old texts and found objects. The mixed-media artist uses wood, found objects, slate, bees wax, bones, brass handles, wheels, glass and other materials in her works.
"My art is driven by ideas around ecology, continuity and regeneration," she states in a press release. "I am intrigued by the ways stories and recollections are woven into the everyday and organized into history. My practice includes mixed media painting, sculpture and installation. Found objects and photographs, natural matter and industrial discards are reclaimed and integrated into the work to honour cycles of life."
The gallery is open during the summer Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. during exhibitions. It is closed holiday weekends.
