Suspect in numerous Durham break-ins busted

DURHAM -- A suspect in more than 40 break-ins in Durham Region has been arrested and police continue to investigate potential links to other incidents.

Durham police picked up a suspect July 1 near White Oaks Court in Whitby following a lengthy investigation into residential break-ins in rural parts of Whitby, Oshawa, Uxbridge and Clarington. Two other suspects were also charged, police said.

Richard Bennett, 29, of Country Lane in Brooklin, faces 43 counts of break and enter as well as possession of stolen property and breach of undertaking.

Also charged were Danielle Bossio-Laverdue, 21, of White Oaks court, Whitby, and 38-year-old Todd Wannan, of Down Crescent, Oshawa.

Police said Mr. Bennett remains a person of interest in unsolved break-ins in rural areas patrolled by the OPP. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-579-1520, extension 2676 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
