Diabetes health fair coming to Pickering

DURHAM -- A free diabetes health fair on Nov. 17 is meant to benefit the lives of those living with diabetes in Durham, their families, co-workers and friends.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that can be controlled but not cured. Host Barbara M. , of Perception Consultants, hopes to offer the right education and information for those living with diabetes to help them live a full and productive life.

The keynote speaker is Dr. John Sigalas, an expert in endocrinology, metabolism and internal medicine at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital. The guest speakers are Rahim Suleman, pharmacist and owner with Shoppers Drug Mart in Pickering, and Michelle Munro, of the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Pharmaceutical companies and diabetes experts will have display tables with information, products and services available. The evening will include door prizes, and refreshments will be available at a small cost.

The event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Petticoat Creek Community Centre (470 Kingston Road, Pickering).
