Annandale hosted the Dominion Regalia Silver Tankard doublerink Ontario championships on Sunday, April 5.
All eight sheets of ice were put to use as there was a men's and women's championship to be settled. The convenor was again Dave Hutchison and he needed an official timer for each sheet and helpers for the internet update and other chores. The winners for the men represented the Milton Curling Club, and for the women, the Orangeville Curling Club. The club was praised by the curlers for the hospitality, great ice conditions and a fine lunch. In the Monday Night Ladies, the winner was the team of Rhonda Welch, Janet Alexander, Leslie Bainard and April Risto. The Omemee Curling Club hosted the Timbits Elementary School Championship last weekend. The players all had to represent their school and curling club. Imagine, 80 teams played down, and although three of them represented Annandale, they were all sidelined. Teams were Jared Anderson, Riley McMulkin, Kierston Singh and Shannon Singh, plus Jacob Cousins with Sara Cousins, Daniel Cousins and Melissa Retz, and Team 3 was Robert Matteau with David Dearness, Rebecca Wort, Jessica Wort and Richard Matteau. The Youth Curling closing banquet and awards session is scheduled for Sunday, April 19. The attendees are all reminded to bring their ice skates, as once the Last Chance Bonspiel is concluded, the compressor is turned off and all are invited to take a turn on the curling ice with their skates. The last event for this season for Pickering resident Richard Hart on the Glenn Howard Ontario Champion team with Craig Savill and Brent Laing takes place in Grande Prairie, Alberta April 14-19. The Grey Power Players' Championship will be the eighth and final 2008-09 Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series event and Team Howard are the defending champions. They will be one of 16 top men's teams and eight will qualify for a share of the $100,000 purse.
