What's open and what's not on Civic Holiday

DURHAM -- Following is a list of what's open and closed on the Civic Holiday, Monday, Aug. 4.

SUPERMARKETS: Some are open and some closed. Check with the outlet you normally shop at to see if it's open.

RETAIL: Retail outlets will be open.

BEER/LIQUOR: Beer and liquor outlets will be open.

VARIETY STORES: Most are open, many around the clock.

BANKS/TRUST COMPANIES: Closed. (Check with your financial institution for hours of operation before Monday.)

POSTAL DELIVERY: There won't be mail delivery.

RECREATION: In Ajax, all indoor facilities will be closed, including the Ajax and McLean Community Centres. The outdoor pool next to the Ajax Town Hall, and the splash pads at Rotary Park on Lake Driveway West and at the McLean Community Centre will be open. Paulynn Park on Ravenscroft Road will be open but rentals are not available. In Pickering, facilities closed are the Pickering Museum Village, the Pickering Recreation Complex and the pool at Dunbarton High School.

LIBRARIES: All public library branches in Ajax and Pickering will be shut.

TRANSIT: Durham Regional Transit will operate on a holiday schedule. GO Transit will operate on a reduced schedule. Call GO for scheduling information at 416-869-3200. Check the Web site www.gotransit.com.

GARBAGE PICK-UP: There's no garbage, Blue Box or Green Bin collections.

GOVERNMENT: Ajax and Pickering municipal halls closed.
